Once again the Julius Robinson led Special Squad deployed by Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi to Ughelli to curb the activities of criminals in that part of the State has hurled in another harvest of criminals and recovered some locally made arms and ammo.
The squad yesterday stormed the hideout of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in an abandoned fuel station along Ogor-Patani Road but on sighting the squad the criminals opened fire and the Operatives responded with a superior fire power and in the ensuing gunfight; one of the criminals was hit and later died in the hospital while receiving treatment. The others escape.

Earlier on Wednesday, June 19, the squad stormed a criminal hideout in Sapele and effected the arrest of four suspects namely; Amechi Ichiagu “m” 25yrs of Ozalla Town in Nkanu West LGA Enugu State, Akpomiemie Larry ‘M” 32yrs of Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA Delta State, Bright Ovie ‘m’ 36yrs of Ugbomaja Community in Ethiope West LGA Delta State, Ese Ogodo “m” 35yrs of Okpe community.
Operatives of the squad recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun from the suspects during the operation.
” Preliminary investigation revealed that apart from their involvements in cult related activities, they are suspected to be involved in house to house armed robbery.” A statement issued by the Command’s PPRO, SP Edafe Bright said adding that investigation was ongoing.
CP Olufemi Abaniwonda reiterated the importance of partnering with the Police in the fight against crime and criminality.
He noted that policing and security is everybody business, hence the need to provide useful, timely and credible information to the police cannot be over emphasize.
He also urged youth to shun all form of cult and crime related activities as the “Command is able and willing to tackle and reduce crime to the barest minimum in the state.” The statement said.
